Lu and Nathan reunite for an evening of original compositions and cherished tunes from the jazz standard repertoire. Born and raised here in the Bay Area, Lu and Nathan have collaborated for more than a decade, most notably as part of LUMAMA, and have continued to grow their musical relationship even at a distance: Lu now lives in Brooklyn, whereas Nathan is based in Oakland. The duo will bring a joyous, buoyant, sensitive, playful and deeply-felt set of music to Specs, and hope that you can join us!

Mr. Lucky & The Cocktail Party is a legendary San Francisco lounge-jazz and swing ensemble fronted by performance artist and crooner Mr. Lucky (a.k.a. Pierre Merkl III). “The dean of postmodern lounge jazz swing singers,” Mr. Lucky brings his ace group of local luminaries–The Cocktail Party–to Specs. Assembled originally around 1998 by Bay Area musicians Joshua Raoul Brody and Ralph Carney, the backing band features a rotating cast of local jazz veterans. Their repertoire includes playful live mash-ups, eccentric jazz re-stylings of the American Songbook, and off-beat humor tailored to vintage San Francisco watering holes. Mr. Lucky & The Cocktail Party are deeply rooted in historic San Francisco neighborhoods like the Tenderloin and Lower Nob Hill. They have performed at iconic local spots including Stookey's Blue Room, the Tenderloin Museum, Pier 23, and the Cadillac Hotel. Pierre Merkl was also the subject of a 2014 documentary titled Getting Lucky.

Basch Jernigan is a singer, songwriter, and musician from Gulf Shores, Alabama and based out of New Orleans, LA. With a soulful voice accompanied by guitar and harmonica, Basch combines elements of blues, folk, and soul with a style inspired by artists such as Taj Mahal and The Wood Brothers. Jernigan has been writing, performing, and releasing music on the gulf coast for over a decade. Basch toured and recorded as the frontman for New Orleans rock and soul band Roadside Glorious from 2016 to 2020 and released his debut singles - recorded at Marigny Studios in New Orleans - in 2025.
Max Sanders is a New Orleans-Raised singer-songwriter and guitarist who has made a mark on the music scene through extensive national touring, both as a solo artist and in support of notable acts like Maggie Koerner, Hollyrock, and Lynn Drury. His lively performances have taken him from the West Coast to the West Village and to major music festivals like the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, French Quarter Fest, and Austin City Limits. He has also opened for artists such as Duane Betts, Melvin Seals(Jerry Garcia Band) and George Porter Jr.(The Meters). As a songwriter, Max brings together rugged western influence with the laid-back traditions of New Orleans’ culture. In his latest collaboration, he joins forces with Grammy-winning producer Aaron Glemboski and artist Cast Iron Shoes to create a rich tapestry of high-desert Americana and swampy soul, highlighting Sanders' ability to bridge diverse musical landscapes.
