This session centers on the legendary "Father of Chicano Music," Lalo Guerrero , and the deep cultural music that defines the American Southwest. The event features an intimate conversation between Dom and Vania, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their archival research, their music collection, Dom’s Mexican-American ancestry, and his family’s music legacy that extends as far back as the late 1800s. Harris is considered one of the leading music artists behind the country rock genre in the 1970s and the Americana genre in the 1990s. The traits we think we’ve spotted in the cowboy — bravery, boldness, a willingness to sacrifice the known for the sake of the better — have always been suspect. But the courage to leave behind a homeland and head west, to boldly step into a new place and declare it home, to survey the scene and try to find your place in it? That’s still around. “The idea of the American cowboy is this romanticized idea that’s just false,” Sunny Jain says plainly. “The immigrant is the current-day cowboy or cowgirl.” This dynamic — of interrogating American myths to make them fit the reality of our world, of both questioning and rhapsodizing the notion of identity in a contingent world — is at the heart of Wild Wild East , the new album from the Brooklyn-based bandleader, composer, dhol player, and drummer. It’s also at the heart of his story — as the son of immigrants from India, as a kid from Rochester raised on the Cure and prog rock, as a fluid jazz drummer on his own and as a party-starter with Red Baraat, as an American of color. Accordingly, his view is broad enough to take in shuddering walls of post-rock guitar, howling tenor sax, the persistent thump of Indian brass band music, rhythms from Punjab and southern Pakistan, film soundtracks from around the world, and swaggering West Coast rap. Close Details Wednesday, September 16, 2026 8:00PM Old Blind Dogs 2026 Old Blind Dogs The musical evolution of Old Blind Dogs began in Aberdeen in 1992 with roots that grew from the eclectic music scene that flourished in the Granite City during the early 90’s. Four musicians from very different musical backgrounds came together to create a full-time professional touring band with the aim of showcasing the rich tradition of songs and tunes of Scotland on an international stage. Like many of the early flag bearing Scottish folk bands the Old Blind Dogs line up has faced inevitable changes over the years but the core values at the band’s musical heart continue to beat strong. The current line up consists of original member Jonny Hardie (fiddle/vocals), Aaron Jones (cittern/guitar/ vocals), Donald Hay (percussion/vocals) and now joined by the brilliant piper/whistle player Mike Katz (formerly of The Battlefield Band). They comprise one of the hottest live tickets on the traditional Scottish music scene today touring all over the USA, Europe and at home. Inducted in to the BBC ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards ‘Trad Music Hall of Fame’ ‘The Dogs’ have celebrated over thirty years on the road. Having received intensive and extensive training in tabla, sitar and vocal from his illustrious father, the renowned tabla maestro and guru, Padmabhushan Pt. Nikhil Ghosh, Nayan Ghosh is respected among musicians and loved by discerning listeners alike for his innate artistry and emotive musical depth in his performances. He also received invaluable guidance from his father’s guru, the ‘Mt. Everest of Tabla’ Ustad Ahmed Jan Thirakwa. Nayan’s elder uncle was the legendary and pioneer flautist Pandit Pannalal Ghosh, the ‘Father of North Indian classical flute’. Since the 1990’s he has also received additional guidance in sitar from the eminent sarod maestro Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Out of the Park presents: El Khat Junkyard Funk from Yemen! doors 7pm / showtime 8pm All Out of the Park shows donate a part of the proceeds to the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund “Brilliant!” - Gilles Peterson “Vigorous psychedelic stomps … an exciting new discovery.” - Uncut El Khat is a homemade junkyard band led by multi-instrumentalist Eyal El Wahab. Th eir original compositions are inspired by the music of the golden age in Aden, Yemen. Experimenting with DIY, self-made instruments as an expression of a minimalist life philosophy—while remaining loyal to traditional Yemeni percussive roots—the three-piece developed a unique Arabic-Yemeni style. Although their detachment from any nation or flag is a driving force behind the group, the heart of their music and heritage remains deeply rooted in Yemeni culture. The constant divisions created by war and migration have given rise to a reassembled identity, one that resonates strongly throughout El Khat’s music. With a fourth album to be released in 2026, El Khat continues to forge a sound that bridges past and present—keeping Yemeni culture alive while reimagining its future.

Shankar with Amit Kavthekar & Selva Ganesh L. Shankar Additional Details L. Shankar , born in Madras, was exposed to Carnatic music and other styles from an early age. He started studying the vocals at the age of two then violin at five then mridangam at seven. At the age of seven, Shankar gave his first public concert, at a Ceylonese temple, Nallur Kandaswamy. In 1958, Shankar and his two older brothers, formed the Violin Trio along with Palghat Mani Iyer which made history in the 20th century Carnatic music scene. He gained a large following performing with some of the most eminent names in Carnatic music, playing all through India, and was highly sought after by legendary musicians such as Chembai Vaithyanatha Baghavatar, Palghat Mani Iyer, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Alathur Srinivasa Iyer and many others. In 1973, John Mclaughlin and Shankar formed the band Turiyananda Sangeet and they co-wrote all the music for it. The band also included Ramnad Raghavan on the mridangam. Zakir Hussain was later added on tabla and the band name was changed to Shakti. Raghavan didn't stay with the project and T.H. Vikku Vinayakaram was added on ghatam for the remainder of those original Shakti days. The band toured extensively around the world. Shankar co-wrote all of the group's material with John McLaughlin, resulting in the release of three world music albums. The artist, raised in Indiana and based in Nashville, brings all of his experiences and beliefs into each song he creates, something that is especially true now that he’s the father of two young girls. Jon released his debut album, Indiana , in 2007 on Island Def Jam, attracting fans with his heartfelt, hook-laden songwriting and impassioned delivery. He’s released six full-lengths in the years since and revealed a true evolution in both his piano playing and singing. He’s played shows with Billy Joel, Kelly Clarkson and Adele, collaborated with longtime friend Sara Bareilles, co-written with Demi Lovato and even performed at the Academy Awards in 2008. On her new album, Neon Summer Skin , Bedouine , the project of Azniv Korkejian , explores this feeling of safety long before one can fully understand the concept. Written with vivid, honest and intimate imagery after visiting her family in Saudi Arabia, it tells the story of family and upbringing, and mourns the end of her childhood. In 2018, they performed a show bringing together more than 20 renowned son jarocho artists to commemorate their 20th anniversary. They have participated in various film recordings, one of them with the song "La Bruja" for the film "Frida," which was included in the soundtrack and was nominated for an Oscar in 2001. They were nominated for an Oscar in 2019 for the Lunas del Auditorio. A small neighborhood coffeehouse and listening room, it has long been a hangout for music lovers and aspiring musicians, and, in the late 1970s, one of these was a young Moravian College student named John Gorka . Though his academic course work lay in Philosophy and History, music began to offer paramount enticements. Soon he found himself living in the club’s basement and acting as resident M.C. and soundman, encountering legendary folk troubadours like Canadian singer/songwriter Stan Rogers, Eric Andersen, Tom Paxton and Claudia Schmidt. Their brand of folk-inspired acoustic music inspired him, and before long he was performing his own songs - mostly as an opener for visiting acts. Soon he started traveling to New York City, where Jack Hardy’s legendary Fast Folk circle (a breeding ground for many a major singer/songwriter) became a powerful source of education and encouragement. Folk meccas like Texas’ Kerrville Folk Festival (where he won the New Folk Award in 1984) and Boston followed, and his stunningly soulful baritone voice and emerging songwriting began turning heads. Those who had at one time inspired him - Suzanne Vega, Bill Morrissey, Nanci Griffith, Christine Lavin, Shawn Colvin - had become his peers. Emcee: Chuy Varela La Doña La Doña is a solo artist, music educator, activist, and cultural worker from San Francisco. Born Cecilia Cassandra Peña-Govea, she began her career at age seven playing trumpet, strings and percussion in her family’s conjunto. She is a student, teacher and preservationist of Latinx traditional arts like corrido, bolero, cumbia, and mariachi. In her compositions, she combines these ancestral traditions with contemporary diasporic musics like reggaeton, hip-hop and jazz. La Doña’s live performances are grounded in ceremony and social mobilization; she and her audiences sing, dance, cry and chant together, for collective healing and political action. Close Enter Promo Code Lucy Kaplansky, Saturday, November 21, 2026 8:00PM Event Summary Saturday, November 21, 2026 8:00PM Lucy Kaplansky Lucy Kaplansky She started out singing in Chicago folk music clubs as a teenager. Then, barely out of high school, Lucy Kaplansky took off for New York City. There she found a fertile community of songwriters and performers—Suzanne Vega, Steve Forbert, The Roches, and others. With a beautiful flair for harmony, Lucy was everyone’s favorite singing partner, but most often she found herself singing as a duo with Shawn Colvin. People envisioned big things for them; in fact, The New York Times said it was “easy to predict stardom for her.” But then Lucy dropped it all. Convinced that her calling was in another direction, Lucy left the musical fast track to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology. Upon completing her degree, Dr. Kaplansky took a job at a New York hospital working with chronically mentally ill adults, and also started a private practice. Yet she continued to sing. Lucy was often pulled back into the studio by her friends, (who now had contracts with record labels) wanting her to sing on their albums. She harmonized on Colvin’s Grammy-winning "Steady On," and on Nanci Griffith’s "Lone Star State of Mind" and "Little Love Affairs." She also landed soundtrack credits, singing with Suzanne Vega on "Pretty in Pink" and with Griffith on "The Firm," and several commercial credits as well—including “The Heartbeat of America” for Chevrolet. Then Shawn Colvin—who was itching to produce a record—hooked up with Lucy, her ex-singing partner. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1960, he began his musical journey at just nine years old, charming audiences on Uruguayan television with his enchanting Tango performances. Cambón’s journey in music has spanned continents, leading him from from the heart of South America to the diverse cultural scenes of Europe and Africa, and finally to a successful career in the United States starting in 1986. As a seasoned percussionist, singer, composer, producer, and bandleader Cambón has made a significant impact on the music world. His connection with the Latin Percussion Co. (LP) highlights his skill and commitment to his art, allowing him opportunities to perform and record with notable figures like Jesús “Chucho” Valdés of Irakere, Eddie Palmieri, Carlos Santana, and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana, as well as with stars of Salsa Romántica like Jerry Rivera and Eddie Santiago. His collaborative efforts extend to working with Keith Terry and “Crosspulse,” Omar Sosa, the Narell brothers, and the Grammy-winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra, among others. Well, Joseph Shabalala was this young farm boy and his dream would become Ladysmith Black Mambazo . The year 2025 marks the 65th anniversary of Joseph Shabalala forming Ladysmith Black Mambazo. His group would not only conquer all of South Africa, but would become a worldwide phenomenon, winning more GRAMMY Awards (Five), and receiving more GRAMMY Award nominations (Nineteen), than any World Music group in the history of recorded music. During the dark years of South African Apartheid, Ladysmith Black Mambazo followed a path of peaceful protest through songs of hope and love. When Nelson Mandela was released from prison, in 1990, he said that Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s music was a powerful message of peace that he listened to while in jail.
