Close Details Sunday, July 19, 2026 7:00PM Omar Sosa Quarteto Americanos We Are Not The Headliner Album Release Celebration 2026 Omar Sosa 7-time Grammy-nominated Cuban composer, pianist and bandleader Omar Sosa celebrates the debut album with his East Bay-based Latin-world-jazz-groove project Quarteto Americanos , featuring saxophone master Sheldon Brown , drummer extraordinaire Josh Jones , and heavyweight baby bassist Ernesto Mazar Kindelán . The recording, entitled We Are Not The Headliner , captures the very heart of Quarteto Americanos, a sonic universe in which Latin roots converge with the worlds of jazz, classical, and hip-hop. It’s a deeply personal sound built on the art of dialogue – a steady, soulful conversation between friends who share a common bond with complete freedom and humility. It’s a musical landscape both sophisticated and authentically grounded. Omar Sosa is a Cuban-born pianist, composer, and bandleader whose musical horizons span world jazz, Cuban, Caribbean, Latin American, European, and African traditions. Over a three-decade career including some 38 recordings, Sosa has gained a devoted following, while garnering numerous commissions and residencies, Rockefeller Foundation and National Endowment for the Arts support, the Smithsonian Lifetime Achievement Award, two BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards, four Grammy nominations, and three Latin Grammy nominations. Sosa’s creative trajectory embodies the expansive perspective of a visionary artist who has taken Monk’s uncompromising attitude to heart. Rooted in Afro-Cuban percussive, dance, and spiritual traditions, intimately versed in a range of contemporary musical forms, but defying easy labels, Sosa’s finely textured compositions and ensemble leadership complement, engage with, and amplify the animating talent of his collaborators through a va

Orquesta Akokán burst onto the global music scene in 2018 with their no-holds-barred 21st century take on the venerable Cuban mambo lit up stages around the world with a fierce and unremitting joy. Chulo Records producer and multi instrumentalist Jacob Plasse , and arranger Michael Eckroth joined forces with a carefully curated selection of Havana’s most extraordinary musicians as Orquesta Akokán, polishing Cuban mambo’s golden sound to a luminous, contemporary sheen. Along the way Orquesta Akokán imbued these legendary Cuban grooves with a renewed vitality and powerful sense of akokán ---the Yoruba word used by Cubans to mean “from the heart” or “soul. Orquesta Akokán’s eponymous 2018 debut riffed on Cuba’s golden grooves from the 1940s and 1950s with fresh style and panache. In contrast, 2021’s 16 Rayos pushed the envelope of the classic mambo by coloring it with an edgy variety of rhythms and styles. These years were marked by widespread critical acclaim, intense world-wide touring, and a multitude of awards for Orquesta Akokán: Billboard Latin Music Award, Telemundo Latin American Music Award, Songlines Music Awards, and a Grammy nomination. “The groove is so infectious that if this doesn't get your foot tapping, you may be dead.” - NPR Website | Facebook | Instagram DANCE FLOOR/STANDING AREA OPEN! Since 2008, she has released two EPs and seven full-length albums majoratively on NY multi-decade tastemaker label Sacred Bones. Nika began training as an opera singer at the age of 10. She dismantled that training to deliver her breakthrough lo-fi record The Spoils in 2009, most of which she recorded as an undergrad in her dorm room at UW Madison. On the release of her follow EP, Stridulum , NME declared her “goth’s new figurehead”. A few years later, The LA Times described her as, “a focused, serious creator with a solid aesthetic, breathtaking musical vocabulary and a confident vision.” Both publications turned out to be right. Her unmissable voice cuts through the fascia of reality. In the last fifteen years, Nika has created a catalog of music which shall forever remain in the lexicon of alternative music of the 21st century. She will be in the textbooks as a genre defining artist of this generation, who served as a template for all of modern goth and by proxy, much of SoundCloud rap, amongst many other things. She has already collaborated with: David Lynch, Big Dean Hurley, David Byrne, Jean Claude Vannier, Johnny Jewel, Run the Jewels, JG Thirlwell, The Orbital, Flood, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, and Jim Jarmusch. She has appeared on Jools Holland, Conan O’Brien w/ El-P, the cover of the Fader, and recently, in Architectural Digest, for her self-designed home, in the woods of northern Wisconsin. Close Details Saturday, August 22, 2026 8:00PM Jeff Parker ETA IVtet Jeff Parker Co-Presented with (((folkYEAH!))) Jeff Parker is a guitarist and composer known for his genre-defying work as a solo artist, with his group The New Breed, as part of the legendary band Tortoise. His music in the last decade has ranged from the jazz-informed psychedelic beat music song cycle Suite For Max Brown to the delicate improvisational solo guitar of Forfolks. He has made music with everyone from jaimie branch to Tom Zé to Flea. ETA IVtet is an improvising ensemble led by Parker. The band—featuring drummer Jay Bellerose , bassist Anna Butterss , and saxophonist Josh Johnson —grew out of a weekly residency started by Parker in 2016 at the now defunct Highland Park Los Angeles venue ETA. By the time the venue closed its doors in 2023 the IVtet had evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form (sometimes stretching out for 45 minutes or more) journeys into innovative, often uncharted territories of groove-oriented, painterly, polyrhythmic, minimalist and mantric improvised music. The band’s audience simultaneously grew from a low key weekly hang mostly populated by friends and regulars, to a high-buzz event with a line of fresh faces stretching down the block each Monday. Part laboratory, part low-stakes proving ground, ETA is where the musical language of the IVtet percolated and coalesced into an instantly recognizable, egalitarian group sound. The sum of four distinct and equal voices, that sound was initially captured on two critically-acclaimed records recorded live in the club’s humble corner—2022’s Mondays at The Enfield Tennis Academy and 2024’s The Way Out of Easy . Happy Today , out May 2026 on International Anthem and Nonesuch Records, is the IVtet’s latest album. Its soun

Close Details Saturday, August 29, 2026 8:00PM Bill Kirchen Band with Nina Gerber 2026 Bill Kirchen Band Bill Kirchen returns to The Freight for, as he says, "the umpteenth time." The Freight’s old store front location on San Pablo Ave. marked the very first of the thousands of shows he'd play in California. In September 1968, Bill accepted an offer to play bass with High Country, at the time a duo of Butch Waller and Mylos Sonka. A guitarist, Bill had never played bass before, but hey, how hard could it be? Hard enough, it turned out. So his career as a bass player was unanimously decreed over. One and done. A couple years later he returned to that same store front as the guitar player with his band, Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen . The Freight marked their first gig in California as well. Bill’s experience in the Bay Area, (1968-1986) with Commander Cody and later The Moonlighters, launched a career that continues today with the release of his 15th album Cat Out of the Bag, on the Last Music Company label, to be released on May 22, 2026. Coming out from Austin, Texas, with Bill are his band - the core players who made this record: Jack Saunders (Tom Russell, Shake Russell, Ray Wylie Hubbard) on bass and Rick Richards (Joe Walsh, Mary Gauthier, Jimmie Dale Gilmore) on drums. Joining the band for a select run of shows is guitar player and accompanist to the stars extraordinaire, the mighty Nina Gerber . Nina, born and raised in Sebastopol, saw and was so inspired by Kate Wolf that she dedicated herself to guitar. Within a few years she had won Kate's respect and earned herself a place as Kate's principal musical collaborator. Nina teaches, arranges and produces and has played and toured with an A-list of performers, among them Kate Wolf, Greg Brown, Karla Bonoff, Dave Alvin, Laurie Lewis, Rosalie Sorrells, L

Featuring many beloved Bay Area Americana performers, including Jill Rogers & Myles Boisen from Crying Time, Loralee Christensen & Paul Olguin from the Loralee Combo, Candy Girard , David Phillips , Gary Vogensen , Kevin Russell and Tim Gahagan from The Familiar Strangers. Ingram Cecil Connor III (November 5, 1946 – September 19, 1973), known professionally as Gram Parsons, was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and pianist. He recorded as a solo artist and with the International Submarine Band, the Byrds, and the Flying Burrito Brothers, popularizing what he called "Cosmic American Music", a hybrid of country, rhythm and blues, soul, folk, and rock. Emmylou Harris (born April 2, 1947)is an American singer, songwriter, musician, bandleader, and activist. A highly regarded figure in contemporary music, she is known for having a consistent artistic direction. Harris is considered one of the leading music artists behind the country rock genre in the 1970s and the Americana genre in the 1990s. Her music united both country and rock audiences in live performance settings. Her characteristic voice, musical style and songwriting have been acclaimed by critics and fellow recording artists. Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris had a powerful musical partnership, deeply influencing the country and rock music landscape. Their collaboration, though tragically cut short by Parsons' death in 1973, left a lasting legacy, and Harris has continued to honor his influence throughout her career. Close Details Sunday, September 13, 2026 7:00PM Sunny Jain's Wild Wild East 2026 Sunny Jain Wild Wild East Behind its idealism, the American myth of westward expansion has always been an irony-caked parable about what happens when you try to escape the known for the pursuit of new beginnings. The traits we think we’ve spotted in the cowboy — bravery, boldness, a willingness to sacrifice the known for the sake of the better — have always been suspect. But the courage to leave behind a homeland and head west, to boldly step into a new place and declare it home, to survey the scene and try to find your place in it? That’s still around. “The idea of the American cowboy is this romanticized idea that’s just false,” Sunny Jain says plainly. “The immigrant is the current-day cowboy or cowgirl.” This dynamic — of interrogating American myths to make them fit the reality of our world, of both questioning and rhapsodizing the notion of identity in a contingent world — is at the heart of Wild Wild East , the new album from the Brooklyn-based bandleader, composer, dhol player, and drummer. It’s also at the heart of his story — as the son of immigrants from India, as a kid from Rochester raised on the Cure and prog rock, as a fluid jazz drummer on his own and as a party-starter with Red Baraat, as an American of color. Accordingly, his view is broad enough to take in shuddering walls of post-rock guitar, howling tenor sax, the persistent thump of Indian brass band music, rhythms from Punjab and southern Pakistan, film soundtracks from around the world, and swaggering West Coast rap. But like Jain himself, Wild Wild East can’t be reduced to a cosmopolitan series of signifiers taking their turn in the spotlight. The ease with which Jain braids his sound highlights the interconnectedness of global styles — and that sense of connection

Close Details Wednesday, September 16, 2026 8:00PM Old Blind Dogs 2026 Old Blind Dogs The musical evolution of Old Blind Dogs began in Aberdeen in 1992 with roots that grew from the eclectic music scene that flourished in the Granite City during the early 90’s. Four musicians from very different musical backgrounds came together to create a full-time professional touring band with the aim of showcasing the rich tradition of songs and tunes of Scotland on an international stage. Like many of the early flag bearing Scottish folk bands the Old Blind Dogs line up has faced inevitable changes over the years but the core values at the band’s musical heart continue to beat strong. The current line up consists of original member Jonny Hardie (fiddle/vocals), Aaron Jones (cittern/guitar/ vocals), Donald Hay (percussion/vocals) and now joined by the brilliant piper/whistle player Mike Katz (formerly of The Battlefield Band). They comprise one of the hottest live tickets on the traditional Scottish music scene today touring all over the USA, Europe and at home. Inducted in to the BBC ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards ‘Trad Music Hall of Fame’ ‘The Dogs’ have celebrated over thirty years on the road. Their fourteenth studio album ‘ Knucklehead Circus ’ is a joyous, uplifting and fun record full of compelling energy and intoxicating rhythm on which ‘OBD’ continue to innovate within their tradition while faithfully revealing its essence. The band are currently working on a new record to be released in early 2027. Here’s to many more years of Old Blind Dogs! “ With an affectionate yet playful attitude to tradition Knucklehead Circus is a joyous, glorious, and thoroughly Scottish precursor to the Old Blind Dogs’ 30th anniversary. ” (Songlines) Website | Facebook | Instagram Read More Hide View Full Calendar Please Note: Donor discount appli

The group is made up of Rachel and Chloe Tietjen , twins, and their older sister Erika . Distinguished by close harmonies, catchy melodies and potent lyricism, the T Sisters’ sound represents a continuum of music: from roots to pop influences, moments of stunning a cappella to swells of groovy indie folk. The sisters' contemporary yet classic sound invites a range of likenesses, from the Pointer Sisters and the Everly Brothers to modern family bands like the Avett Brothers and First Aid Kit. With their soaring sibling harmonies, sassy stage presence, and inventive songwriting, these three sisters embody a fresh and soulful take on folk/Americana music. Music and performance have provided a consistent backdrop for the sisters, having grown up with their musician father and dancer mother. The sisters began singing together as early as they could speak, and not long after they began to experiment with harmonies, gradually developing their ability to blend their voices as only sisters can. In 2008, after having been separated for a number of years, the sisters returned to the Bay Area to produce and perform in an original musical. They then co-founded Chthonic Theater, a performing arts collective through which they create and perform in original musical theater productions, lead local parades, and curate and host variety shows featuring local and touring artists. After the initial performance experiment of the musical, the sisters began to write songs together and develop their singing and harmonizing outsid

Close Details Sunday, September 20, 2026 7:30PM Rumi’s Caravan Returns to Berkeley 2026 Rumi's Caravan Rumi says, “Ours is not a caravan of despair.” We are here to share the Oral Tradition and revive the Soul of the World! For over twenty years, Rumi’s Caravan has offered an improvised poetic conversation with music, quoting from Rumi, Hafiz, Mary Oliver, Kabir, Wendell Berry, Neruda, Rilke, Robert Bly, Yeats, Naomi Shehab Nye, William Stafford, Maya Angelou, Leonard Cohen, Seamus Heaney, Denise Levertov, Antonio Machado, May Sarton and others. The conversation can range from the heights of inspiration and ecstasy to the depths of grief, and back again, but always with images of beauty. Dress lavishly! We offer this treasury of words to meet and inspire the souls of the audience. All proceeds from tonight’s performance will support the work of the Middle East Children’s Alliance . Shankar with Amit Kavthekar & Selva Ganesh L. Shankar Additional Details L. Shankar , born in Madras, was exposed to Carnatic music and other styles from an early age. He started studying the vocals at the age of two then violin at five then mridangam at seven. At the age of seven, Shankar gave his first public concert, at a Ceylonese temple, Nallur Kandaswamy. In 1958, Shankar and his two older brothers, formed the Violin Trio along with Palghat Mani Iyer which made history in the 20th century Carnatic music scene. He gained a large following performing with some of the most eminent names in Carnatic music, playing all through India, and was highly sought after by legendary musicians such as Chembai Vaithyanatha Baghavatar, Palghat Mani Iyer, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Alathur Srinivasa Iyer and many others. In 1973, John Mclaughlin and Shankar formed the band Turiyananda Sangeet and they co-wrote all the music for it. The band also included Ramnad Raghavan on the mridangam. Zakir Hussain was later added on tabla and the band name was changed to Shakti. Raghavan didn't stay with the project and T.H. Vikku Vinayakaram was added on ghatam for the remainder of those original Shakti days. The band toured extensively around the world. Shankar co-wrote all of the group's material with John McLaughlin, resulting in the release of three world music albums. According to Downbeat music magazine critic Lee Underwood, "All three are masterpieces, of which the deeply moving and technically astonishing Handful of Beauty will stand tall in recorded history for decades to come." The artist, raised in Indiana and based in Nashville, brings all of his experiences and beliefs into each song he creates, something that is especially true now that he’s the father of two young girls. Jon released his debut album, Indiana , in 2007 on Island Def Jam, attracting fans with his heartfelt, hook-laden songwriting and impassioned delivery. He’s released six full-lengths in the years since and revealed a true evolution in both his piano playing and singing. He’s played shows with Billy Joel, Kelly Clarkson and Adele, collaborated with longtime friend Sara Bareilles, co-written with Demi Lovato and even performed at the Academy Awards in 2008. Jon’s album, Like Us , dropped in October of 2015 via Razor & Tie, and he spent the past few years touring extensively before heading back into his Nashville studio to work on new music. Jon released a Christmas EP in 2017 titled Red & Green with two originals and his take on a few holiday classics. In November of 2018 Jon released his album Angst & Grace Still My Girl which features “ Still My Girl ” written for his youngest daughter. His newest album, Scenarios (October 2025), marked a bold new chapter, featuring brand-new songs that showcase both his storytelling and signature piano-driven sound. This holiday season, Jon brings his beloved Home For The Holidays tour—featuring Morgan James, Kris Allen, David Davis, and T.3—to 13 U.S. cities after two sold-out years in Carmel, IN. As with everything he does, Jon’s goal is to create connections. He wants to translate his experiences and ideas into music that reaches fans everywhere. His passion for music and playing is

Close Details Friday, October 16, 2026 8:00PM Altan 2026 Altan Altan is celebrating 40 years on the road! After four decades, Altan remains at the forefront of traditional Irish music, blending the raw energy of their native Donegal fiddle style with a rare melodic sensibility. To coincide with this tremendous milestone, they have planned special celebratory concerts in Ireland and abroad, inviting special guests to join them. Altan evolved from Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and her late husband, Belfast flute player, Frankie Kennedy playing duets, first at folk clubs and smaller festivals in Ireland an on to the world - wide stage. The group has always been regarded as tradition bearers, bringing their native Donegal music and songs to a wider public, keeping true to their roots while exploring modern arrangements and textures to entice new followers. This integrity in their music has placed them in high esteem by their peers and is why they are regarded as one of the most popular Irish traditional bands of all time. They were the first ever Irish traditional band to be signed to a major label by Virgin Records in 1995. The group has its original core members: founding member, lead singer, and fiddler Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh , Ciaran Curran on bouzouki, and Mark Kelly on guitar. Accordion player, Martin Tourish has been recording and touring with the band now for over 15 years. The latest addition to Altan’s lineup is the wonderful young fiddler and singer, Clare Friel , who is steeped in the tradition of her Donegal ancestors! They've brought their native music to renowned venues like Carnagie Hall NY, the Sydney Opera House, Dublin’s National Concert Hall , Glastonbury Festival, Tradfest Temple Bar in Dublin, and to Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany. Close Details Friday, October 30, 2026 8:00PM CelloGayageum CelloGayageum CelloGayageum is not just a duo—it’s a musical journey across continents, cultures, and centuries. Founded in 2016 by Austrian cellist Sol Daniel Kim and Korean gayageum virtuoso Dayoung Yoon , CelloGayageum bridges the soulful depth of Western classical music with the mesmerizing elegance of Korean gug-ak (traditional music). Inspired by Berlin’s Pavilion of Unity, this unique collaboration celebrates the beauty of connection—between instruments, histories, and people. With original compositions rooted in Korean folk melodies and infused with global sensibilities, CelloGayageum creates a sound that is at once ancient and refreshingly modern. ABOUT DAYOUNG YOON Dayoung Yoon is a gayageum (traditional Korean plucked zither with 12-strings) player and composer of the ensemble CelloGayageum. She graduated from Korean National Traditional Arts High School and received a bachelor's and master's degree from the Korea National University of Arts. Following her graduation, she pursued solo activities in France, Germany, Italy, and beyond. During her tenure as a gayageum instructor at the Berlin Korean Cultural Center, she crossed paths with cellist Sol Daniel Kim and co-founded the ensemble CelloGayageum. Dayoung has garnered recognition for her contributions to the ensemble, receiving awards such as the Soorim Cultural Prize (2018), Jeongdong Theater's "Youthful Artist of the Year" (2020), Director of the Young Gugak Orchestra at Seoul Namsan Gugakdang (2021), and the first prize in the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation's Youth Song (2021). Close Details Thursday, November 5, 2026 8:00PM Solas Solas Solas is lighting up stages across the globe as they celebrate three decades of pushing boundaries and honoring traditions in Irish music. Hailed by The Boston Globe as “the finest Celtic ensemble this country has ever produced,” and by The Wall Street Journal as “an Irish traditional band bearing all the marks of greatness,” Solas continues to captivate audiences with their spellbinding musicianship and genre-defying creativity. Formed in New York City in 1995, Solas quickly rose to prominence as a revolutionary force in Irish-American music. The very first iteration of Solas brought together a lineup of extraordinary talent including multi-instrumentalist Séamus Egan , fiddler Winifred Horan , vocalist Karan Casey , guitarist John Doyle , and accordionist John Williams . Together, they redefined the Celtic sound for a new generation, weaving traditional Irish tunes with elements of folk, bluegrass, Americana, and contemporary songwriting. Now, with twelve critically acclaimed albums and a reputation for dynamic, emotionally charged live performances, Solas has set new standards for musicianship, repertoire, and intensity. Their debut album Solas (1996) established a bold new voice in traditional music, and each subsequent release has showcased the band’s remarkable ability to tell stories that resonate across time and cultures. Among their most ambitious works is the 2013 concept album Shamrock City , a deeply personal project inspired by Egan’s great-great-uncle, who immigrated from Ireland to the mining town of Butte, Montana in the early 1900s. The album is a powerful meditation on immigrant identity, labor struggles, and lost dreams, and it solidified Solas’ reputation as not only virtuosic musicians but evocative storytellers.
