more
Nothing's Gonna Make Sense (Reflections on Grief) Choreography by KT Nelson Nothing's Gonna Make Sense (Reflections on Grief) reflects on Nelson’s experience of the sudden death of her husband, an event that significantly altered her sense of reality. The work invites you to (experience -or accept- the unknown) hang out in the unknown? and not panic. “bravely weird, risky, simultaneously masterful and uncontrolled” - San Francisco Chronicle KT NELSON (ODC Fellow) joined ODC/Dance in 1976 and partnered with Brenda Way in directing the ODC/Dance Company until 2020. KT choreographed the Company’s first full-length family ballet in 1986, The Velveteen Rabbit. The production has become a holiday tradition in the Bay Area engaging generations of dance goers. KT has been awarded the Isadora Duncan Dance Award four times: in 1987 for Outstanding Performance, in 1996 and 2012 for Outstanding Choreography, and in 2001 for Sustained Achievement. Her collaborators have included Bobby McFerrin, Geoff Hoyle, Amy Seiwert, Shinichi Iova-Koga, Kate Weare, Zap Mama, and Joan Jeanrenaud. Her work RingRounRozi, in collaboration with French-Canadian composer Linda Bouchard, was selected to be performed at the Tanzmesse International Dance Festival. boulders and bones, in collaboration with Brenda Way, was part of BAM’s Next Wave Festival. Her One Long Breath collaboration with Na Hoon Park was selected for the MODAFE festival in Seoul, Korea. Path of Miracles, created in collaboration with the Volti Vocal Ensemble, is her third evening-length work and has toured across the country. In 1996, Nelson founded the ODC Dance Jam (ages 6-13). As ODC’s first director of Educational Outreach, Nelson did extensive community work including partnerships with the Kohler Arts Center, University of Florida at Gainesville, Everett Middle School, San Francisco Mime Troupe, San Francisco’s Writers Union, Thunder Road Drug Rehabilitation and more. From 2004 to 2007, she ran the dance department for the su

Babatunji Saturday, August 29, 2026, 3:00pm - ASL Interpretation Provided Get Tickets Babatunji is a dance artist, choreographer, and creative innovator based out of Oakland, CA. Though never formally trained as a child, Babatunji was always moving his body to the beat. At the age of 15, he discovered the art of hip hop. Following this epiphany of love, he grew up through his teens breaking and popping on street corners in Hilo, Hawai’i. After being “discovered” by a local dance instructor, he began his formal training at Center Stage Dance Alliance in various styles of dance, including ballet. This training would lead him to Lines Ballet’s Training Program, and from there, into LINES Ballet company. For over a decade, he has worked with one of the greatest American choreographers, Alonzo King. Throughout their time together, Babatunji originated many roles, including the acclaimed “Lift Every Voice” solo in which he’s been blessed to share the stage with Grammy Award-winning vocalist, Lisa Fischer. As a freelance dancer, Babatunji has worked with Post:ballet, SFDanceworks, tinypistol, and Ballare Carmel, and has performed works by choreographers such as Adji Cissoko, Yue Yin, Danielle Rowe, Brett Conway, Rich and Tone Talauega, David Harvey, and Mike Tyus. Additionally, his work for film includes features in Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs’ Blindspotting on Starz. Most recently he co-starred alongside Misty Copeland in her short art film Flower, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2023. The San Francisco Chronicle profiled Babatunji’s journey from street performance to the big screen. Over the past 10 years, Babatunji has developed a unique movement language, blending his background in ballet, contemporary, breaking, and hip hop. He has choreographed for Berkeley Ballet Theater, Boston Dance Theater, Post:ballet, Trolley Dance, SFDanceworks, San Francisco Dance Film Festival, among other Bay Area companies. As a solo artist, Babatunji has performed internatio

It focuses on the somatic process of learning (or remembering) and embodying movement, which allows us to not only train the body for aesthetic and performative purposes, but for building neural pathways that can help us expand our awareness of space, time, and connection to the land. Through breath, warmth, stillness and movement, this class explores a rigorous and buoyant physicality that embraces pleasure through phrases, somatic practices and improvisation. gizeh is a movement, teaching, and performing artist currently co-existing in Ohlone territory. They are dedicated to the study of being a breathing body through movement and stillness. Through their work, they create spaces that allow them to play and divest from concepts of linearity in a creative process, with the intention of practicing freedom. gizeh’s choreographic and teaching work has been shared in the United States, Mexico, and Europe in festivals such as P.O.R.C.H in Germany, Improspeckje in Croatia, GUSH in San Francisco, and 4x4 in Tijuana. gizeh has been an artist in residence at Atland Residency, CounterPulse, PUSH, BANDALOOP, and Bridge Live Arts, and is the 2023-25 Radiate fellow of RAWdance. gizeh is the curator and producer of Gatherings - a free movement workshop series in the Bay Area. @gizzeh This project is generously supported by the Rainin Foundation and Zellerbach Family Foundation.

Khala Brannigan: Maura Saturday, August 29, 2026, 7:30pm - ASL Interpretation Provided Get Tickets Maura (Work In Progress) is a deeply personal psychological thriller and horror work that draws from lived experience and ancestral Native American storytelling connected to choreographer Khala Brannigan ’s lineage. Growing up with the knowledge that she has a deceased sister, Brannigan carried an uncanny sense of her presence—questioning whether she heard her speaking or whether Brannigan herself was alive. Maura explores the spaces between identity and absence, grief and embodiment, memory and myth. Experimenting with material in the book she is writing, Brannigan will interact with dancers as thresholds between realms—grief and resilience, horror and tenderness, the seen and unseen. Khala Brannigan is a Los Angeles–based choreographer, filmmaker, educator, and somatic trauma practitioner. Her practice centers embodiment, emotional resilience, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She has created 15 dance-based works for the stage, film, and multimedia productions. Originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico, Brannigan studied on scholarship at Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet Training Program in San Francisco from 2011–2013. She was a resident choreographer with SAFEhouse Arts from 2013–2019 and received awards from the Zellerbach Family Foundation and Dancers’ Group CA$H Grant. Her work has been presented at ODC Theater, Joe Goode Annex, Z Space, and festivals including SF Dance Film Festival. From 2017–2019, she was also a company member with Robert Moses’ Kin. After relocating to New York City in 2019, Brannigan participated in a choreographic fellowship with Sidra Bell Dance New York and presented work at Peridance, Arts On Site, Three’s Brewing, The Woods, and Dual Rivet’s Made By Women Festival. She choreographed for the short films Amor Fati (dir. Katherine Huggard) and An Unwanted Guest (dir. Nicole Rinaldi), and was commissioned in 2024 to create a new work for Robert Mo

Leslie Cuyjet: Blur Saturday, August 29, 2026, 8:30pm Sunday, August 30, 2026, 2:30pm - ASL Interpretation Provided Get Tickets Blur (West Coast Premiere), a solo performance by choreographer Leslie Cuyjet, experiments with visibility and invisibility, and the relationship between performer, audience, and object. Viewers are invited to navigate a choreographic and phonetic landscape through the lens of race and objectification. Written and performed by Cuyjet, Brandon Wolcott ’s sound design manipulates text informed by personal history and experiences with dance, which so often casts her as a black dot on a white stage. A body suit composed of close-up images of Cuyjet’s own skin, designed by Miodrag Guberinic , helps Cuyjet ask if she can control her own erasure or disappearance and rewrite an existence she’s never experienced. Leslie Cuyjet is a choreographer, dancer, and writer whose multidisciplinary practice weaves together dance, video, text, and installation. Her work functions as a living archive, tracing both personal and collective memory. Born breech in Illinois, the family story goes that she "came into this world dancing," feet first and kicking. After arriving in New York in 2004, Cuyjet spent years as a performer for a diverse group of downtown choreographers and artists, including Cynthia Oliver, Jane Comfort, David Gordon, Niall Jones, Juliana F. May, Narcissister, and Will Rawls. Her choreographic voice is driven by interrogating these experiences as a performer through the lens of the black body, and questions how the performer is perceived, staged, and remembered. Cuyjet's solo performances and installations present these intersections of history, personal narrative, and the politics of presence as pathways to visibility and black embodiment. Her work has been presented at venues like BAM, ICA Boston, EMPAC, The Kitchen, The Shed, MoMA PS1, Center for Performance Research, SculptureCenter, and The Chocolate Factory Theater. Cuyjet has garnered r

Johnny Huy Nguyễn: BURN Sunday, August 30, 2026, 4:30pm: Dragons Dance/Erin Yen & Johnny Huy Nguyễn - ASL Interpretation Provided Get Tickets How do you burn? Reclaiming fire as a regenerative force for rebirth, BURN (Work In Progress) envisions dance as a transformative act of self-immolation. How do we set ablaze inherited legacies of war, forced displacement, and violence passed down through family to create ash for new growth? Johnny Huy Nguyễn is a Vietnamese multidisciplinary dance artist and son of refugees based in unceded Ramaytush - Ohlone territory. He weaves together movement, theater, multimedia, spoken word, ritual, and installation to create body-based works characterized by sweeping physicality and dramaturgical depth. His works deal with themes of masculinity, spirituality, lineage, loss, and inheritance while interrogating the social, political, and cultural forces that shape us. Nguyễn is a 2025 Walter & Elise Haas Creative Power Award Finalist, 2025 Caldera Artist-in-Residence, 2023 United States of Asian America Festival Featured Artist, 2022 Isadora Duncan Dance Award recipient, and 2021 APAture Festival Featured Artist. @johnny.huy.nguyen This project is generously supported by the Kenneth Rainin Foundation (New Experimental Works Grant) and San Francisco Arts Commission (Arts Impact Endowment).
