Som Dela (“her sound” in Portuguese) is a new quartet composed of four outstanding Bay Area musicians on flute, violin, piano and percussion. The performers are all virtuosic and eclectic musicians and composers in Brazilian music and other improvised styles, and have forged well-earned careers in many diverse groups they have performed with, including Berkeley Choro Ensemble, Real Vocal String Quartet, Modern Spark Trio, SF Opera, Ballet and Symphony, VNote Ensemble, Grupo Falso Baiano, Samba Rio, Montclair Women’s Big Band and more. The ensemble is dedicated to performing music by women composers from Brazil, including their original compositions, as well as the music of Léa Freire, Luisa Mitre, Carol Panesi, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Anat Cohen, Daniella Spielmann, Lucianna Rabello, and more. Who We Are: Jane Lenoir, flutist, performs regularly as a soloist, chamber musician, jazz and Brazilian artist. She is founder of Berkeley Choro Ensemble and Berkeley Festival of Choro, and a founding member of Som Dela.She has performed with the Oakland Symphony, Ballet and Opera, Stockton Symphony, San Jose Symphony, SF Opera, SF Ballet, San Francisco Chamber Music Society and University of California Contemporary Chamber Players. She is principal flute of the Music in the Mountains Orchestra and appears regularly as a soloist at the festival. Irene Sazer, internationally known founding member of Turtle Island String Quartet, recording artist, and respected educator, is an in-demand genre-hopping violinist/fiddler. She founded the prolific Real Vocal String Quartet and has played with Ali Akbar Khan, David Grisman, Linda Ronstadt, and Bjork, among others.A grant awarded composer, she has also built a distinctive portfolio of visual art and films. Rebecca Hass is a pianist, composer, collaborative pianist, educator, and creative coach dedicated to creative curiosity and joy. She has been part of the Brazilian music scene in the Bay Area since 2019, and has recorded 3 albums of her
